Product Description
H Series by Griswold
The H Series by Griswold is a specialised range of self-priming centrifugal pumps for water-transfer applications. Moreover, the pumps are designed to lift water from suction depths of up to 25 feet, allowing them to perform in applications where conventional self-priming pumps may struggle.
The range provides flow rates up to 325 gpm or 73.8 m³/hr and heads up to 260 feet or 79 metres. In addition, maximum operating pressure reaches 110 psi or 7.6 bar, while the listed maximum liquid temperature is 100°F or 37.8°C.
Reliable Self-Priming Operation
A self-priming pump removes air from the suction line before beginning normal water transfer. Therefore, the pump can operate above the liquid source without requiring the casing and suction pipe to remain completely flooded.
The H Series uses an extra-large priming chamber and a built-in flapper-type check valve. Consequently, the pump retains water within the casing and reduces the need for repeated manual priming.
Moreover, the check valve helps prevent siphoning when the pump stops. As a result, the system can restart more quickly during intermittent pumping duties.

Together, these features provide flexible and durable water-handling performance. Moreover, the wide operating range allows users to select a pump for different flow, head and installation requirements.
HL and HH Pump Options
The H Series is available in two principal hydraulic versions.
HL Pumps
The HL range is designed for lower-flow duties. Therefore, it suits installations where moderate capacity and comparatively higher pressure are required.
HH Pumps
The HH range is designed for higher-flow applications. Consequently, it supports water-transfer duties that require greater volume.
However, the correct model depends on the full system curve rather than flow alone. Therefore, users should calculate static lift, discharge pressure and piping losses before selecting the pump.
High Suction Connection
The suction connection is positioned above the pump centreline. As a result, the impeller and mechanical seal remain covered with water after the pump stops.
Consequently, this design reduces the need to reprime the pump. Moreover, keeping the seal wet helps reduce the risk of dry operation and premature seal damage.
Heavy-Duty Pump Construction
The H Series uses a heavy-duty ASTM A48 Class 30 cast-iron casing with built-in drain and priming plugs. In addition, a single-piece cast-bronze impeller is balanced and trimmed for the required operating range.
The standard configuration also includes a carbon, ceramic and Buna mechanical seal with a renewable bronze shaft sleeve. Therefore, the sleeve helps isolate the shaft from abrasion and contact with the pumped water.
Alternatively, hard-faced seal options are available for applications requiring additional wear resistance.
Drive and Installation Options
The H Series can be supplied in close-coupled or frame-mounted arrangements.
Close-coupled models support JM-frame open drip-proof or totally enclosed fan-cooled motors. Meanwhile, frame-mounted versions allow connection to alternative drive arrangements.
Available connection options include threaded or flanged discharge connections and NPT or Victaulic-style suction connections. Consequently, the pump can integrate with different piping layouts and installation requirements.
Applications in the UAE
The H Series may suit:
- Irrigation systems
- Water sumps
- Underground storage tanks
- Marine water transfer
- Barge drainage
- Tank-car unloading
- Sprinkler systems
- Swimming pools
- Construction dewatering
- General water transfer
- Light industrial applications
- Emergency drainage systems
For example, an irrigation system can use the pump to lift water from a below-ground reservoir. Similarly, a marine or industrial facility can use it to empty sumps, tanks or barges.
Selecting the Correct H Series Pump
Correct selection depends on:
- Required flow rate
- Total dynamic head
- Vertical suction lift
- Suction-pipe size and length
- Water temperature
- Available electrical supply
- Motor enclosure
- Connection requirements
- Installation environment
- Required seal materials
Therefore, users should verify the available NPSH and suction conditions carefully. Otherwise, excessive suction losses may cause slow priming, reduced flow or cavitation.
Why Choose H Series by Griswold?
The H Series combines strong self-priming capability with durable cast-iron and bronze-fitted construction. Moreover, its built-in check valve and high suction connection help maintain prime and protect the mechanical seal.
Therefore, it is a practical choice for UAE water-transfer applications requiring dependable suction lift, flexible installation and straightforward operation.
