Product Description
Toyo VH Slurry Pumps
The Toyo VH Slurry Pumps provide heavy-duty pumping for dense, abrasive slurries containing settled solids. Their patented shaft-mounted agitator lifts sediment and creates a pumpable mixture. Therefore, the pump can transfer material that may settle around the inlet of a conventional unit.
Moreover, the amphibious motor receives cooling from air or water. Consequently, operators can use the pump when fully submerged, partially immersed or installed in a suitable surface arrangement.
Amphibious Heavy-Duty Pump Design
Each Toyo amphibious slurry pump combines a semi-open impeller with large hydraulic passages. As a result, solids can move through the pump with fewer restrictions.
In addition, the heavy-duty shaft and bearing assembly supports demanding radial and axial loads. Meanwhile, two mechanical seals operate inside an oil bath to protect the motor from the pumped slurry.

VH Slurry Pump Performance
The current European VH range provides pumping capacities up to 210 m³/h. Moreover, suitable configurations can handle slurry with solids content reaching 55% by weight.
The published slurry density starts at approximately 1.25 kg/dm³ for heavy-duty duties. In addition, standard agitator-equipped configurations handle particles up to 45 mm.
However, these figures represent range-wide limits. Therefore, engineers must select each Toyo VH heavy-duty pump from its model-specific performance curve and solids-passage data.
Patented Agitator and Solids Suspension
The Toyo agitator mounts directly on the pump shaft. During operation, it loosens settled sand, sediment and sludge before directing the mixture towards the impeller.
Consequently, the VH agitator slurry pump creates a more uniform solids concentration around the inlet. Moreover, continuous agitation can reduce manual excavation and sump clean-out requirements.
Nevertheless, the agitator cannot process every material. Therefore, users must identify particle dimensions, hardness, shape and concentration before selecting the pump.
Wear-Resistant Hydraulic Components
Toyo manufactures the impeller, wear plate and agitator from cast chrome iron containing approximately 24% to 28% chromium.
As a result, these components resist abrasive wear from sand, minerals and industrial sediment. Moreover, Toyo offers selected alternative metallurgies, including stainless steel, for compatible corrosive or acidic slurries.
However, engineers must verify the complete slurry chemistry before choosing construction materials.
Air- and Water-Cooled SP Motor
The powerful SP motor allows the Toyo VH Slurry Pumps to receive cooling from the surrounding water or ambient air.
Therefore, the pump can continue operating when the water level falls below the complete motor body, provided the installation follows Toyo’s operating requirements. Consequently, VH pumps suit applications with fluctuating liquid levels.
The custom four-pole motor also carries a 1.25 service factor. As a result, it supports the changing loads associated with dense slurry transfer.
Adjustable Wear Plate on Larger VH Models
VH15 and larger European configurations include an adjustable wear plate. Therefore, technicians can restore the clearance between the impeller and wear surface as components gradually wear.
Consequently, adjustment helps preserve hydraulic efficiency and pumping capacity. Moreover, facilities may extend component life before replacing major hydraulic parts.
Side Outlet and Mixing Versions
Standard VH pumps use a side outlet discharge. Alternatively, Toyo offers special VHA and VHJ versions with three outlets for combined pumping and mixing operations.
In addition, high-head VH configurations support systems with longer discharge pipelines or greater elevation. However, the required version depends on flow, head, slurry density and mixing requirements.
Operating Limits
Published European operating conditions include:
- Maximum capacity: Up to 210 m³/h
- Solids concentration: Up to 55% by weight
- Particle size: Up to 45 mm
- Standard slurry temperature: Up to 60°C
- High-temperature version: Up to 80°C
- Permitted pH range: 4–14
- Maximum operating depth: 30 metres
However, these limits do not apply simultaneously to every model. Therefore, users must confirm the selected pump’s individual specification.
Typical Slurry Applications
The Toyo VH Slurry Pumps may support:
- Sand and sediment removal
- Industrial sump cleaning
- Mining and mineral processing
- Construction slurry transfer
- Tank and lagoon clean-out
- Dredging operations
- Quarry wastewater
- Abrasive sludge pumping
- Ash and process residue
- Settling-basin cleaning
- Heavy industrial slurry transfer
- Mixing and recirculation duties
Moreover, the amphibious construction suits applications with changing liquid levels. Nevertheless, engineers must review the solids characteristics and required discharge distance for every project.
Choosing the Correct Toyo VH Pump
Correct selection depends on flow, total head, slurry density, solids concentration and maximum particle size.
In addition, engineers should confirm slurry temperature, pH, abrasion level, installation position, discharge arrangement and motor supply. Therefore, specialists should select the Toyo VH Slurry Pumps from model-specific curves and dimensional data.
Otherwise, an unsuitable model may experience accelerated wear, insufficient flow or motor overload.
